The doctor called dangerous diets in an epidemic

Diets based on a calorie deficit or the exclusion of key nutrients may increase the risk of contracting coronavirus infection. This was announced by Ekaterina Burlyaeva, Candidate of Medical Sciences, general practitioner, head of the Healthy and Sports Nutrition Consultative and Diagnostic Center of the Federal Research Center (FRC) for Nutrition and Biotechnology, RIA Novosti reports.

Fasting-based diets can lead to reduced immunity, making the body more susceptible to infectious diseases, Burlyaeva warned. According to her, during a pandemic, it is necessary to monitor the correspondence of calories eaten to those spent, and also try to diversify the diet.

At the same time, the nutritionist noted that during the self-isolation regime, the daily calorie intake should be lower than usual, since most people have significantly decreased physical activity. The menu should be divided into three main meals and one or two snacks, the nutritionist explained. Dinner is worth no later than three to four hours before bedtime, Burlyaeva added.

Rospotrebnadzor opened a hotline on nutrition during a pandemic Society
Earlier, scientists from the Federal Research Center for Nutrition, Biotechnology and Food Safety developed rules for nutrition while observing the regime of self-isolation at home. According to the recommendations of experts, with this regimen, it is necessary to reduce portions and give preference to foods with low calorie content. In addition, every day you should eat about 400 g of fresh fruits and vegetables and drink at least two liters of water.

On April 27, Rospotrebnadzor announced the opening of a hotline for nutrition during the self-isolation regime. You can contact the contact center for advice on choosing a diet, diet and physical activity, as well as on cooking.
