March 16, Gomel. The COURT of the Rechitsa district delivered a verdict in a criminal case on violation of traffic rules by a drunk driver, which negligently resulted in the death of a passenger, BelTA learned from the Gomel regional court.

The motorist was charged under Part 4 of Article 317 of the Criminal Code. According to the court, at the end of August 2021, the man got behind the wheel of a car drunk. “Knowing that the passenger in the front seat was also intoxicated and not wearing a seat belt, he did not take measures to correct this before starting to move. He reversed and allowed the situation when the woman left the car and fell. ran over her," the regional court said.

As a result of the accident, the passenger received serious bodily injuries, from which he died.

The court found the driver guilty of violating traffic rules by a person driving a vehicle while intoxicated, which negligently caused the death of a person. Based on Part 4 of Art. 317 of the Criminal Code, he was sentenced to 5 years in prison with serving in a correctional colony in a settlement. Also, a man is deprived of the right to engage in activities related to driving vehicles for 5 years.

The verdict has not entered into force, can be appealed and protested in the manner prescribed by law.
