July 19, Mogilev. In the Mogilev region, the number of fires, the victims of which are people, is decreasing every year. This was announced at a press conference on the eve of the 170th anniversary of the fire service of Belarus by the head of the Mogilev regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Sergei Demidov, BelTA has learned.
“Every year we note that the number of fires in which people die is decreasing. Thus, in the first half of the year, the number of deaths in fires decreased by 15% (39 people), in the same period last year - 46,” he said. less worrying is the increase in the number of fires in the region: in the first half of 2023, there were 427 fires, and 386 in the same period last year.As before, the main place of occurrence of fires is the housing stock. The main causes of fires remain - 35% this year are due to careless handling of fire. In such fires, the most people died - 33 people. In 30% of cases, the cause of fire is violations during the operation and installation of electrical equipment. 20% of fires occur due to violation of fire safety rules during the operation of furnaces and heat generating devices.
"It is important to pay attention to the fact that 92% of those killed in fires are people who are in a state ofalcohol intoxication or alcohol dependence. Another condition that contributes to the death of people in fires is unemployment. 41% of the dead are people who are of working age, but who do not work anywhere and lead an asocial lifestyle, - said Sergey Demidov. “In order to reduce the number of emergencies, we have stepped up preventive work in the places where such citizens live.”
Professionalism, courage and willingness to always come to the rescue are the hallmarks of rescuers. In the Mogilev region, there are more than 2.6 thousand people in the ranks of rescuers, who are armed with more than 600 pieces of equipment. "We always come to the aid of people, be it fire, water or air. We work underground, respond to emergencies related to accidental releases of hazardous substances, find and rescue people in ecosystems. We participate in the liquidation of all emergency situations, - Sergey Demidov noted. - In order for rescuers to be able to fully help citizens, it is important to pay attention to the material and technical component. Rescuers have the most modern equipment and machines. Close attention is paid to the improvement of this base in our country. Technologies are developing, progress is moving forward, and we are developing along with it."
