April 4, Mogilev. In Mogilev, an OMON officer rescued a fisherman who fell through the ice, BelTA learned from the Department of Internal Affairs of the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee.

"Last Sunday, April 3, police officer of the operational-combat platoon Nikita Podchezertsev was walking in the Pechersky forest park on his day off. By the lake in the forest, he suddenly heard that someone was calling for help from the side of the reservoir," the police department said.

Having run up to the shore, the police officer saw a man in a hole in the middle of the lake, up to his neck in the water. The policeman grabbed a stick on the shore and went to the hole. In order not to fall through the ice himself, he crawled to the place where the man fell through, pushing a stick in front of him. He handed it to the drowning man and pulled him out of the water. "It turned out that he helped a fisherman who chose the wrong place for ice fishing," the police department added.

Already on the shore, a law enforcement officer suggested that the fisherman go to the rescue station so that specialists could provide the necessary assistance. However, the man refused medical assistance and, having thanked the savior, went home.

“The rescue station is far enough from the scene, so when I saw that the situation was critical, I rushed to help the person. I would like to appeal to the citizens with a request not to lose vigilance and not go out on the ice when its thickness is doubtful,” said Nikita Podchezertsev.

Law enforcement officers reminded about the rules of safety on the ice: do not go out on thin, fragile ice, do not come close to reeds and flooded bushes, do not go out on the ice at night and in poor visibility, as well as in a state of intoxication .
