July 8, Mogilev. A resident of the Krasnopolsky district was poisoned by a veterinary drug. Irina Rachkovskaya, official representative of the Department of the State Forensic Examination Committee for the Mogilev Region, informed BelTA about this.

“In the Krasnopolsky district, a man consumed about 30 ml of an unknown reddish liquid, similar to fruit and berry wine, which a friend treated him to. Soon after that, he felt nausea, weakness, darkening in his eyes, and vomiting began,” she noted.

The villager was hospitalized in the anesthesiology and intensive care unit of the district hospital. The man was diagnosed with alcohol poisoning. After providing medical assistance to the life and health of the man, nothing threatened.

A forensic medical examination was appointed to conduct a check on this fact. The seized liquid in a bottle, which the man consumed, was taken for examination. Based on the results of a forensic examination, ethyl alcohol and hellebore plant alkaloids were found in the presented liquid," Irina Rachkovskaya said.

As noted by experts, hellebore tincture is used in veterinary medicine as an emetic and to fight parasites. The tincture contains in its composition ethyl alcohol and a mixture of poisonous alkaloids from hellebore Lobel, also known as puppeteer. "In terms of its organoleptic properties, it is the smell, color and taste, hellebore tincture is similar to alcoholic beverages, due to ethyl alcohol in its composition and causes alcohol intoxication. However, the use of this tincture leads to severe poisoning, often fatal. A lethal dose for an adult person is 50 ml of tincture.

Medical forensic experts of the department of the State Forensic Examination Committee for the Mogilev region remind: the safest option to avoid alcohol poisoning is to avoid drinking alcohol. You can not use alcoholic beverages of unknown origin, in non-original containers, without excise stamps, purchased from the hands. And remember, even the highest quality alcohol is dangerous in excess quantities .
