April 2, MINSK . The Berezovsky District COURT issued a verdict in a criminal case involving a drunk driver violating traffic rules, which resulted in the negligent deaths of two people, the Brest Regional Court press service told BelTA.

The defendant got behind the wheel of a Seat Toledo in December of last year while intoxicated.While driving on the Kobrin-Ivatsevichi-Stolbtsy road , a woman became distracted by an argument with her husband, who was in the front seat of the car. She lost control of the road and struck the 25-year-old driver of a Renault Premium 450DXI tractor-trailer. As a result of the accident, the passenger (the defendant's husband) and the driver of the semitrailer died at the scene from their injuries.

The defendant fully admitted her guilt in the crime.

The court found the woman guilty and, under Part 5 of Article 317 of the Criminal Code, sentenced her to eight years' imprisonment in a general-regime penal colony with the deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for eight years. The court also ordered the convicted woman to pay Br50,000 in compensation for moral damages to the wife of the deceased truck driver.

The verdict has not yet entered into legal force and may be appealed and contested in accordance with the established procedure.
