In the village of Drozdy, Mozyr district, the bodies of an 83- and 85-year-old couple with signs of beatings were found in a burnt-out house by the daughter of a pensioner and called the police.
The circumstances of the incident were established by a group of operatives from the Main Directorate for Criminal Investigation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee and the Mozyr District Department of Internal Affairs, and employees of the Central Office of the Investigative Committee.
As noted in the department of information and public relations of the Investigative Committee, after examining the bodies of the pensioners,
it became clear that their
death was criminal in nature, and the arson of the house was an attempt to hide the traces of the murder. “The woman was severely beaten and, as specialists from the UGKSE in the Gomel region found out, she was already dead at the time of the fire.
The man also had numerous injuries on his body, but the preliminary cause of his death was carbon monoxide poisoning,” the Investigative Committee specified.
Police officers detained a 35-year-old local resident, a neighbor of the deceased pensioners, on suspicion of murder. As the Ministry of Internal Affairs said, on the day of the murder the man came to the owner of the house with a request to postpone the repayment of the debt taken the day before. A conflict broke out and the neighbor struck the elderly woman at least five times in the
head with a metal object. When her husband came out in response to the noise, the attacker beat him to death as well. To hide traces of the crime, the attacker set things on fire.
“The defendant took with him the savings of pensioners - more than Br500 rubles in equivalent, which he spent on buying spare parts for the car,
alcohol and products," the Ministry of Internal Affairs added.
The Investigative Committee noted that the man had not previously been brought to criminal responsibility, he had a dependent minor child.
"Investigators of the Main Investigation Department checked the testimony on the spot with the participation of the suspect, the man spoke in detail and showed how he killed pensioners,” the Investigative Committee informed.
The actions of the 35-year-old man are qualified under Part 2 of Article 139 (murder of two obviously elderly people) of the Criminal Code. “Investigators will petition to apply a preventive measure to him in the form of detention,” - the Investigative Committee emphasized.
The investigation of the criminal case continues.
