Minsk . After 26 years, the murder of a young woman in the
Minsk region has been solved. This was announced at a press conference by representatives of the police and the Investigative Committee, BelTA reports.
Deputy
Head of the Investigative Committee for the Minsk Region, Alexander Protosovitsky, revealed details of the criminal case regarding the murder of a 19-year-old Minsk woman in 1999. The woman's body, bearing signs of sexual assault, was found on the bank of the Ptich River in the Minsk region. A hydraulic car jack was attached to her body with metal wire. "Near the scene, the deceased's belongings were found containing traces of biological material, which, according to the initial theory, and was later confirmed, belonged to the perpetrator. A forensic examination determined that the deceased
died from mechanical asphyxia and that she had been raped shortly before her death. The identity of the murdered woman, a Minsk resident born in 1980, was established," said Alexander Protosovitsky.
Deputy Chief of the Minsk Regional Executive Committee's Department of Internal Affairs and Chief of Criminal Police Sergei Yakubel noted that several theories had been put forward in the case. "Despite the large number of suspects investigated, none of the leads worked. In
2025 , intelligence was received about a group of young men who lived near the girl's residence in 1999. The group met women and invited them to spend time on the riverbank. This was all accompanied by
alcohol consumption. When we began investigating these people, we established some connections with the girl's acquaintances. Based on this, we concluded that the victim could have been the victim of a crime committed by individuals who were part of this group," emphasized Sergei Yakubel.
By the time the information was received, one of the suspects had died, and the other two had been detained. "During the investigation, they described the crime and showed the location. Indeed, one of them had previously known the victim and invited the girl to go with them to the riverbank. At some point, one of the young men attempted to make advances toward the girl, which she refused. Afterward, he committed violent sexual acts and subsequently killed her," the deputy chief of the Department of Internal Affairs explained.
