Drove drunk through the center of Gomel and crashed into another car: the driver was sentenced to 6 years in prison

March 21, Gomel. The court of the Zheleznodorozhny district of Gomel passed a sentence on a resident of the regional center who, while drunk, committed an accident that caused grievous bodily harm. This was reported to BelTA in the Gomel regional court.

There was a Gomel resident in the dock. He was charged with violating traffic rules and operating vehicles while intoxicated , which negligently caused grievous bodily harm.

The road accident happened in early October 2021. While drunk, the man was driving a Jaguar X-Type with a rapid speed increase along Lenin Ave., the regional center. According to the prosecutor's office of the Gomel region, he flaunted in front of other road users. At some point, he changed lanes to the adjacent right lane to get ahead of passing vehicles, but he collided with a parked Hyundai Solaris, which was thrown onto the sidewalk from the impact. A Hyundai passenger was injured in the accident.

As previously reported, the man was driving at a speed of at least 102 km/h. Ethyl alcohol was found in his blood - at least 3.55 ppm. This refers to severe alcohol intoxication.

The city dweller was found guilty by the verdict of the court. On the basis of part 4 of article 317 of the Criminal Code, he was sentenced to 6 years in prison with serving in a correctional colony under general regime conditions. For 8 years, the person involved is deprived of the right to engage in activities related to driving vehicles.

The court also ruled to recover from the accused Br15 thousand in favor of the injured passenger as monetary compensation for moral damage.

The verdict did not enter into force.
