Overeating and ALCOHOL abuse on New Year's Eve can lead to disruption of the digestive system, gastritis and pancreatitis, Svetlana Makarova, a nutritionist and endocrinologist at RZD-Medicine, told RBC.

“In general, a late, heavy dinner of any kind can upset your digestive system. Overloading the gastrointestinal tract leads to indigestion, which in turn provokes gastritis, various colitis, pancreatitis, and the New Year is, in general, a nightly dinner, ”explained the specialist.

To avoid this, breakfast and lunch should not be skipped on December 31, and it is better to choose low-calorie salads, lean MEAT and fish, the DOCTOR said.

“On New Year's Eve itself, try to eat in small portions, carefully chewing each piece of food, otherwise after the holiday you risk leaving the table with a distended stomach and heaviness in the stomach. I recommend abandoning mayonnaise and replacing it with other dressings, because mayonnaise has a very negative effect on the state of the digestive system,” Makarova emphasized.

Also, the nutritionist recommended limiting alcohol , carbonated drinks and packaged juices - they are harmful not only to the digestive system, but also to lipid and cholesterol balance.
