MINSK . Investigators with the Gomel Region Investigative Committee have established the circumstances of the murder of a 45-year-old Gomel resident who was previously missing, the Investigative Committee told BelTA.
According to investigators, on April 6, the man went to his dacha in the village of Romanovichi in the Gomel District. Upon arrival, he visited a local resident, where he met a 77-year-old acquaintance from Gomel who also lived in the dacha.
The men drank together. The pensioner then went to his dacha, and the 45-year-old city resident followed him. At the dacha's retirement home, the two continued drinking
. At some point, a conflict erupted between them. In a fit of rage, the pensioner stabbed his opponent at least 34 times with knives, punches, feet, and stools on various parts of his body. The man died from severe blood loss.
The dacha resident did not report the incident to anyone. That evening, he went to spend the night at a neighbor's. On the morning of April 7, the pensioner returned to the dacha, wrapped the deceased's body in a tarp, and hid
it behind a shed. He then tidied up the house a bit, took the deceased's backpack, and drove to Gomel. To confuse the search, he deliberately left the backpack on the bus. The next day, the pensioner informed his family that he was going to the clinic and then drove to the dacha. There, he dug a hole near the shed, moved the deceased's body into it, and skillfully camouflaged it. He removed the excess sand from the hole, transported it to another location, and covered it with slate. A few days later, the missing
man's godfather raised the alarm about his prolonged absence and contacted the police. Members of the Simuran search and rescue team joined the search and discovered the camouflaged grave. The missing man's body was recovered from the ground. Investigators have opened a criminal case into the murder. Police detained a 77-year-old summer resident on suspicion of committing the crime. He cooperated with the investigation, confessed, and expressed remorse. He has no prior criminal record and suffers from
ALCOHOL addiction. Based on the evidence collected in the case, the Gomel resident was charged under Section 6, Part 2, Article 139 (intentional, unlawful killing of another person, committed with particular cruelty) of the Criminal Code. With the prosecutor's
approval, the defendant was remanded in custody.
