Despite the winter season, greenhouses in the Vologda region are already preparing for the main spring holiday - International Women's Day. The plants are planting tulip bulbs. In total, it is planned to plant about 4 million flower bulbs this year.
“In their natural environment, tulips bloom in May. But our producers want to please the women of Vologda much earlier. Therefore, the Teplichny SHPK Combine in the city of Vologda and TK Tonshalovskiy LLC in the Cherepovets District, as well as a number of other organizations involved in growing flowers, decided to increase the planting area for tulips,” said Mikhail Glazkov, Deputy Governor of the region.
Emergency cultivation is a complex and time-consuming process. For bouquets, experts start planting flowers at the end of December. Vologda enterprises mainly use Dutch bulbs. About 40% of the area is occupied by yellow tulips, which stand for a very long time, 30% by large red tulips and 10% by white ones. The remaining 20% are white-pink, two-tone and varieties of other colors.
