PIONERPRODUKT.by continues to publish videos from the AgroExpedition “Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan”. In this form we will talk about the exterior features of the Arashan breed of sheep, which is one of the largest and heaviest in the world.
With Iskender Bolotovich Abdraliev, chief boniter of the Kyrgyz public association of sheep breeders, using the example of a ram named “Khalif” from the Arashan breeding farm, Abdulla Sharipov, we will talk about the breed standard, find out how long ago work with the Arashan breed began, when this breed was registered, what breeds of blood are there in Arashans, how do Arashans differ from other MEAT and fat breeds. Let's take measurements of the Khalifa, discuss what height, weight, pastern girth, HEAD girth, ear length, etc. should be. Let's find out what "Arashan" means and why we chose this name.
According to Iskender Bolotovich, work on the Arashan breed began in the 70s of the 20th century. By crossing rams of the Gissar breed with local fat-tailed ewes, breeders sought to obtain a new breed of meat and fat. The breed was officially registered only in 2021.
The word "Arashan" translated from Kyrgyz means "hot spring". This word is easy to pronounce for representatives of Central Asia, the Caucasus, Europe, and RUSSIA. In addition, Arashan - hot springs, are found in all regions of Kyrgyzstan, and in all regions there are villages with the same name, so after long discussions, it was decided to give this name to the new breed of sheep.
Peculiarities of the breed
- Large head
- Powerful elongated neck
- Oblique length, exceeding the length of the body
- Heavy weight.
-The coat is semi-coarse, short, the tail can be of any shape.
According to Iskender Bolotovich, genetic examination showed that 70% of the genes of the new breed are the result of selection, and the remaining 30% are genes of the Gissar, Afghan and Edilbaev breeds.
We took measurements of one of the outstanding specimens of this breed - a ram named "Khalif", their breeding farm "Arashan", Abdulla Sharipov.
The shin circumference was 12 cm, chest circumference 133 cm, fat tail circumference 127 cm, oblique length 92 cm, chest depth 47 cm, chest width 33 cm, chest width 32 cm, length 33 cm, head width 13 cm ., height at the withers is 103 cm, with the minimum requirements for the breed being 90 cm, height at the rump is also 103 cm, which indicates the evenness of the back. Weight 203.5 kilograms.
At the time of filming, according to Iskender Bolotovich, there were about 8,000 sheep of the Arashan breed in Kyrgyzstan. At the same time, a strict selection is carried out and during the initial visit by a boniter to a new farm, only about 40% of the livestock are selected for compliance with breed characteristics.
According to Iskender Bolotovich, after lambing it is necessary to carefully monitor the udder of the sheep, and if necessary, MILK it, as there is a lot of milk, and if it stagnates, milk may form.mastitis . If we talk about milk production, sheep farmers from Moldova who visited exhibitions and farms in Kyrgyzstan note a highudder , and high fat content of milk.
Sheep of the Arashan breed are the pride of Kyrgyzstan. Due to their unique characteristics, they are becoming increasingly popular among livestock breeders not only in Kyrgyzstan, but also in other countries.
