Highly pathogenic avian influenza (classical avian plague) is an acute infectious disease registered in domestic and wild bird species in many countries of the world. The economic costs of eliminating the disease are very high and include: the slaughter of diseased and healthy birds in the focus of infection, the costs of quarantine, disinfection and vaccination.
Taking into account the epizootological situation of avian influenza in the Russian Federation and the rest of the world, monitoring measures to identify the causative agent of this disease are of particular importance.
Since the early 2000s in the laboratory diagnosis of avian influenza, a special place is occupied by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), subsequently combined with reverse transcription (RT) and brought into the “real time” (RT) mode for quick analysis of the results. This method is recommended by the World Organization for Animal Health (WHOAH) as a reliable method for detecting RNA of this pathogen.
On the basis of the reference laboratory of viral diseases of birds of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Federal Center for Animal Health" subordinate to Rosselkhoznadzor, a set of RT-PCR-RT GP type A with an RNA-containing internal control sample (ICS) and At present, the industrial production of the diagnosticum has been organized.
The results of validation tests demonstrated high sensitivity, specificity and reproducibility of 100%, which allows us to recommend this test system for the detection of RNA of avian influenza A virus in samples of biological material from birds and other animals, feed, food products, washings from food products and any other surfaces of environmental objects.
