The first time we visited the breeding and genetic center "Volgograd-Edilbay" back in 2013. And every year, coming here, we rejoice, because the work carried out on the farm brings not only scientific benefits, but also raises the prestige of all sheep breeding.

We are looking at lambs of the intrabreed type of the Edilbaevskaya breed, born in February. All individuals are required to undergo a monthly control weighing. According to the conditions of preliminary grading, rams at the age of 4-5 months, weighing 40 kilograms, have the highest score - 5 points. Preliminary grading is carried out according to the point system, where 4-5 points is the highest score (breeding animals).

The final grading of rams is carried out according to the class system at the age of 1.5 years. After this grading, animals are divided into classes: the highest mark is the elite class, the first class is compliance with breeding standards, the second class is the breed standard.

In some sheep of the Edilbae breed, we see white spots, although such spots were not observed in all predecessors. But Eragy Isaaevich puts forward a hypothesis - with in-depth selection of sheep of the Edilbaev breed, hidden genes can wake up.
Together with Eragy Isaaevich, we carry out a control weighing of rams. The first ram showed a weight of 57.45 kilograms, which allows us to estimate the weight gain since the last control weighing. Over the past 12 days, the ram has gained 3.15 kilograms of live weight. At the same time, all rams this time pass the control weighing on an empty stomach, because. they stand in a corral and have been waiting for us since the evening.

Based on the results of the control weighing, it can be concluded that the rams of the new intrabreed type of the Edilbaev breed have a very high growth energy, which indicates an increase in the profitability of the farm.

The main financial burden on the sheep farm occurs in winter, so the high growth energy of young animals leads to a sharp increase in profitability. Because a lamb with high vigor can be sold before the winter period without herding it into winter housing, thereby significantly reducing costs.

It is the selection work with the intrabreed type of the Edilbaev sheep that makes it possible to almost double the profitability of the sheep farm.

We also carried out a control weighing of the factory line of sheep of the Edilbaev breed at the age of about 70 days, the results of which also significantly exceed the grading standards.
