In 2023, the veterinary department carried out more than 165 million preventive and forced vaccinations, therapeutic and prophylactic treatments of animals and birds. 1 million 9 thousand doses of vaccine against rabies of wild carnivores were distributed on the hunting grounds. Also, 2.88 million ectoparasitic treatments were carried out on farm animals. Such updated data on the results of the year were presented at an industry meeting in the Don Ministry of Agriculture and Food by the head of the veterinary department of the Rostov region, Alexander Kruglikov.
“One of the important areas is monitoring of especially dangerous diseases common to humans and animals, so last year more than 2.7 million diagnostic tests were carried out in veterinary laboratories to track dangerous and contagious animal diseases,” said the head of the Don Veterinary Service. “More than 8.5 thousand samples of biomaterial were selected and delivered to federal laboratories to detect highly pathogenic avian influenza, African swine fever, foot-and-mouth disease, peste des petits ruminants, rabies, brucellosis, classical swine fever and other diseases.”
It was also noted at the meeting that last year the government veterinary service of the Rostov region organized and conducted 215 exercises and trainings to develop a set of veterinary and sanitary measures to eliminate conventional foci of infectious animal diseases, including two interregional scientific events with the invitation of veterinary services of the Volgograd and Voronezh regions , Stavropol and Krasnodar territories, Lugansk and Donetsk People's Republics.
The head of the veterinary department of the Rostov region reported that the anti-epizootic and preventive measures taken made it possible to maintain the well-being of the Rostov region with respect to such animal diseases as anthrax, foot-and-mouth disease, sheep pox, plague of small ruminants, contagious dermatitis nodosa, tuberculosis, classical swine fever and a number of other contagious animal diseases.
“On behalf of the governor of the Rostov region Vasily Golubev, last year the veterinary laboratories of the Kamensk, Millerovsk, Taganrog, Remontnensk, Salsk, and Azov inter-district stations for the fight against animal diseases were prepared and accredited in the national accreditation system,” said Alexander Kruglikov.
In addition, at the event it was emphasized that the activities of the Don State Veterinary Service are also aimed at monitoring the veterinary and sanitary safety of products of animal origin. In this regard, last year the veterinary laboratories of the region conducted 62 thousand 652 studies of food products produced in the region. More than 934 thousand veterinary and sanitary examinations of regulated products were carried out in the food markets of the region.
There was also talk about veterinary certification of goods through electronic registration in the Mercury system, a series of lessons in educational institutions of the region on instilling the principles of humanity towards animals and other events in which veterinary specialists take part.
“In general , the work of the Don veterinary medicine is assessed positively, but there are still areas for growth and development, and the government and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the region are ready to provide support in this,” summed up the Deputy Governor of the Rostov Region –Minister of Agriculture and Food Konstantin Rachalovsky. “I would like to emphasize that the effective work of the state veterinary service is the basis for the biological safety of the region.”
