Georgia calls Ukrainian sanctions against Georgian Airways unfair

The imposition of sanctions against the airline Georgian Airways by Ukraine is an unfair decision in relation to the Georgian people, said the Chairman of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili.

“I believe that today's decision, which was made in relation to one citizen of Georgia, is certainly a very bad step taken against the Georgian people by some representatives of the Ukrainian authorities . On the other hand, the assessments that we have heard from European and American sanctions coordinators show that this decision has no grounds,” Papuashvili said ( quoted by Interpressnews).

At the same time, he noted that criminals of Georgia are hiding in Ukraine - adviser to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Zurab Adeishvili and deputy HEAD of counterintelligence Gia Lortkipanidze. "Instead of handing over the people who created the system of torture of the Georgian people - Zurab Adeishvili, Gia Lortkipanidze, they are being promoted to the highest positions," Papuashvili added.

On the afternoon of July 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky imposed sanctions on Georgian Airways and its management after resuming flights to RUSSIA. In particular, the founder of the carrier, Tamaz Gaiashvili, was included in the sanctions list. The restrictions will be in effect for ten years, they include blocking accounts, restricting trading operations and preventing the withdrawal of capital from the country.

In May, Russian President Vladimir Putin lifted the visa regime for Georgian citizens and a ban on direct flights to the country. After that, Georgian Airways performed the first flight from Tbilisi to Moscow, and the first flight to Georgia after the resumption of air traffic was made by the Russian airline Azimuth.

Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili called for a boycott of the airline, and considered Putin's decision "another Russian provocation." Gaiashvili responded by saying that Zurabishvili would not be allowed on Georgian Airways planes.
