Brussels announced a 90% reduction in Russian oil imports

Imports of Russian oil to EU countries have already decreased by 90%, EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson said on her Twitter (the social network was blocked at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office).

“Thanks to our collective efforts and in solidarity with Ukraine, the European Union stopped importing coal from Russia, eliminated imports of Russian oil by 90%, and pipeline gas supplies were significantly reduced,” Simson said.

The European Union imposed an embargo on the import of Russian oil and oil products. At the same time, the embargo did not affect Russian crude oil, which is supplied to the EU countries via the Druzhba pipeline.

Through its northern part, oil goes to Germany and Poland, which have promised to unilaterally stop pipeline deliveries of Russian oil. The only EU countries that can continue to buy Russian oil are Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

In December, the European Union introduced a price ceiling for Russian oil for shipments by sea to third countries. It is set at $60 per barrel. The decision was made jointly with the G7 countries ( USA , Canada, UK, France, Germany, Italy and Japan) and Australia. The G7, the EU and Australia make up the Price Cap Coalition. In mid-February, Switzerland joined the price ceiling for Russian oil.

On August 10, the European Union began to ban the import of coal from Russia.
