The United States is preparing a new package of sanctions in connection with the poisoning of Alexei Navalny, as well as against Russian companies involved in the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline (Nord Stream 2). Jake Sullivan, National Security Adviser to the President of the United States, said this on CNN.

“We have imposed sanctions against RUSSIA for the poisoning of Alexei Navalny ... We are preparing another package of sanctions to apply it in this case,” Sullivan said.

Biden's aide linked the results of the summit with Putin to the actions
of Russiaannounced plans to introduce restrictions against Russian companies participating in Nord Stream 2 every 90 days. “He [Biden] has done it and will continue to do so,” Sullivan said.

At the same time, as the presidential aide emphasized, sanctions will not be imposed against foreign companies involved in construction. “We have imposed sanctions on several Russian companies. We waived sanctions only against two <...> - a German citizen and a Swiss company, ”Sullivan said.

The announcement comes four days after Biden met with Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 16 in Geneva. After the summit, the Russian leader said that "a lot of blockages" had accumulated in relations between Russia and the United States, but there was no hostility in the negotiations. In turn, the American leader said that the atmosphere at the summit was "good and positive", and noted the prospects for improving bilateral relations.

Russia and the United States agreed to return their ambassadors to Moscow and Washington. In addition, the parties announced work on the fate of imprisoned Russians in the United States and Americans in Russia, and recalled that there are no winners in a nuclear war. The productivity of the meeting, according to Biden, can be judged in six months - according to the results.
