18,000 children fell ill with COVID-19 in Bashkiria in a year

In 2022, 18.2 thousand cases of coronavirus among children were registered in Bashkiria, compared to 2021, this number has halved, the Ministry of Health of the Republic told RBC Ufa. In total, since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in the spring of 2020, 54.1 thousand cases of infection in minors have been recorded in the region (one sixth of the total number of cases).

In 2022, 2.1 thousand children needed hospitalization, in total, 5.1 thousand children were treated in hospitals during the spread of the virus. Seven patients were connected to ventilators.

At the end of December, 98 active cases of the disease among children were recorded in the republic, compared with the summer period in December, the incidence tripled. At the end of the year, 41 minors were treated in hospitals, one patient was connected to a ventilator.

“The number of severe cases of the course of the disease has decreased by three times compared to 2021, in 2021 there were 780 cases, in 2022 - 240,” the Ministry of Health said in response to a request from the editors.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in Bashkiria, seven children have died from the coronavirus. Last year, there were no such cases in the region.

According to the ministry, as in 2021, children under 14 were most often ill with coronavirus in 2022, and severe forms of the disease were most often recorded in the age group from three to seven years. The probability of infection is higher in children from risk groups, with background diseases of the nervous system, diabetes mellitus, as well as in adolescents under the age of 12 years.

As of January 3, 2023, 344.6 thousand cases of coronavirus were registered in Bashkiria, over the past day the disease was confirmed in 367 people. Over the entire period of the spread of the infection, 336.7 thousand residents of the republic managed to cope with it, 391 patients were discharged the day before with recovery. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 5958 deaths from COVID-19 have been registered in the region.
