According to doctors, there is enough vaccine in the region to get vaccinated for everyone.

This was announced today by the HEAD of the regional HEALTH department Alexei Plotnikov. At an operational meeting under the governor, he spoke about the current epidemiological situation with CORONAVIRUS infection, the press service of the head of the region reports.

“Today, the main circulating strain in RUSSIA is a new variant of the Omicron strain, Centaur, which is characterized by even greater contagiousness and in proportion gives less severe forms of the disease. A new variety of the omicron strain has already been discovered in Russia. Scientists are linking it to a new wave of covid-19 around the world. At the same time, the elderly, with chronic diseases, and weakened immune systems are still at risk,” said Alexey Plotnikov.

In such patients, the disease is usually severe, with damage to the lung tissue and respiratory failure. In hospitals of the region there are also patients with a high level of lung damage, requiring oxygen therapy and mechanical ventilation. Currently, 56 patients with coronavirus are receiving medical care in four hospitals.

Over the past two weeks, Moscow and St. Petersburg have seen an increase in the incidence of coronavirus. The coefficient of spread of infection in the Vologda region is 1.12. Over the past week, 257 new cases of COVID-19 have been registered, up 16% from the previous week.

The most effective prevention is vaccination. The region has a sufficient supply of the vaccine in all municipalities. The Vologda Oblast in terms of primary vaccination coverage of the adult population occupies the 54th position in the ranking of the regions of the country, the figure is 58%. The head of the relevant department urged Vologda residents to get vaccinated.

“There is a vaccine in the region that allows the entire population over 12 years of age to be vaccinated. The priority category for vaccination is still citizens belonging to the risk group for the moderate and severe course of a new coronavirus infection. All residents of the region who have not been vaccinated and have not been ill since the age of 12, as well as those who have had the infection more than six months ago, are subject to vaccination,” Alexey Plotnikov said.

He also recalled that previously vaccinated citizens are subject to revaccination six months after the previous vaccination.
