
For the period from February 26 to March 4, consumer prices in Russia rose by 2.2%, according to Rosstat. In annual terms, price growth reached a six-year high of 10.4% on March 4 (in January 2016 - 9.8%, in December 2015 - 12.9%). The trend also affected Tyumen: restaurateurs, coffee house owners, realtors and entrepreneurs reported an increase in the cost of various goods. About the conditions under which prices stabilize, told the Department of Consumer Market and Tourism of the Tyumen region.
The department explained that retail prices will tend to decrease in the event that the dynamics of a number of factors is favorable, and demand from consumers evens out.
“The dynamics of food prices are influenced by such
factors such as seasonality, changes in the exchange rate, price dynamics in the markets
of producing countries, a decrease in the supply of imported goods,
an increase in logistics costs for the delivery of goods to consumers,
the volume of the harvest of individual crops. In addition, recently there has been a rush demand for groceries from the population, which leads to a faster exhaustion of the cheapest commodity items (goods of the first price) and promotional goods, ”the department told RBC Tyumen.
“Due to rising prices, people have lost their purchasing power. New products have become unaffordable for many. On the other hand, there was a shortage of new products due to logistical problems and the suspension of individual companies. For example, for cars,” Ivan Vilkov, Associate Professor of the Department of Economic Theory and Applied Economics of the Financial and Economic Institute of Tyumen State University, explained to RBC Tyumen.
The X5 Retail Group, which includes such retail chains as Magnit, Pyaterochka, Perekrestok and others, said that in order to keep rising prices, they have to save on keeping stores running.
“At the moment, suppliers of a number of categories are reviewing the price conditions for the supply of food products to retail chains, citing changes in exchange rates, rising costs for production, transportation and other factors among the reasons. In the event that suppliers contact us with a notification of an increase in selling prices, we discuss with partners the objectivity and validity of the increase. Each such appeal is considered on an individual basis. We are also looking for joint opportunities to contain the increase, or, if this is not possible, to stretch it out over time. In the event that for justified reasons we are forced to accept new delivery prices, a decision is made regarding the adjustment of the price on the shelves.
