World tourism will return to pre-pandemic levels no earlier than 2023, experts from the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) have concluded. This was reported to TASS by UNTO Secretary General Zurab Pololikashvili.

“Nearly half of experts (45%) believe that international tourism will return to 2019 levels in 2024 or later, while 43% point to a recovery in 2023,” he said.

According to Pololikashvili, experts expect a "very positive rise" in world tourism in the second and third quarters of next year. This, he explained, would be due to pent-up demand for travel. “At the moment, we are seeing a slight recovery in the regions of Southern Europe, Central America and the Caribbean,” added the Secretary General of the UNWTO.

Outbound tourism spending has not returned to pre-pandemic levels Society

Pololikashvili also pointed out that the mutual recognition of covid-19 vaccination certificates would "without a doubt" have a positive impact on the recovery of tourism. “The easing of travel restrictions for vaccinated travelers and the recognition of various vaccines have contributed to increasing consumer confidence in travel,” he explained.
