“Until the age of 23 you will disassemble the rubble”: how the reform failed in St. Petersburg
Experts place a significant part of the blame for the garbage collapse that occurred in St. Petersburg in January 2022 on Smolny - the city government delayed the auction to select the reoperator and left the latter too little time to directly organize the transportation process. The regoperator itself is also to blame, which conducted the auction for the transportation of garbage in such a way that one of the largest companies, all these years without any problems taking out garbage from almost half of the city (the market share is 42%, according to the FAS), lost contracts. They were received by a much less powerful company, whose ability to reliably fulfill the received large orders, the experts obviously doubted.
"Square with a fountain": what will the rejection of the St. Petersburg "Zaryadye" lead to
An analogue of Zaryadye is unlikely to appear in the center of the Northern capital. As Yulia Kiseleva, chairman of the city committee for urban planning and architecture, told RBC earlier, the design of the Tuchkov Buyan art park will be adjusted. According to the press secretary of the President of RUSSIA Dmitry Peskov, both a park and the Judicial Quarter may appear on this territory, where the Supreme COURT will subsequently move. Whether the area of the park, which was originally planned at 10 hectares, will be reduced will become known after the completion of the design work, the administration of St. Petersburg added.
This is not the first time that, after holding large-scale architectural competitions for the concept of the development of the territory of Tuchkov Buyan, the authorities abandoned the project of the winners. For example, according to the project "Embankment of Europe" by architects Yevgeny Gerasimov and Sergey Tchoban, who won the competition in 2009, project documentation was already being developed, but the idea was not implemented. The fate of the project of Maxim Atayants, who won the competition for the construction of the Judicial Quarter and the Eifman Theater of Maxim Atayants in 2013, was similar. Daria Tabachnikova, a participant in the development of the terms of reference for the concept of the park, the HEAD of the SMENA project bureau, shared her opinion with RBC Petersburg about what the rejection of the Tuchkov Buyan project would lead to.
