President Vladimir Putin supported the proposal to postpone the All-Russian population census so that the time of its holding does not coincide with the campaign and voting for the election of deputies of the State Duma. This, according to TASS, was stated by the press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov.
“President Putin supported the proposal of Turchak (Secretary of the General Council of United RUSSIA), the proposal of United Russia to move the population census to October,” Peskov said.
Andrei Turchak said that the All-Russian population census, which is scheduled to begin in June and end in September, coincides with the election campaign - elections to the State Duma are to be held in September.
“If census takers and agitators go home at the same time, this will create unnecessary tension among people, an overlap somewhere will cause direct irritation. The census takers and election officials who are supposed to report on elections are often the same people, especially in small towns and districts. As a rule, these are teachers and social workers,” he said, speaking at the meeting.
The government decided to reschedule the population census due to the pandemic Society
