The pandemic has accelerated the change in consumer behavior, making taking care of one's health one of the main priorities of Russians. According to PWC surveys, in 2020 the number of Russians paying attention to physical health and fitness (+18 p.p. compared to pre-COVID), nutrition and diets (+21%) has increased.

Proper nutrition is the main component of a healthy lifestyle. Responding to the demand for a healthy lifestyle, stores increase the availability of healthy products on the shelves: the range of products with a short shelf life from natural products is growing; goods have additional labeling - organic, eco, gluten free, to make it easier for the buyer to navigate the assortment; the supply of vegetables and fruits, fresh products is increasing; Stores that specialize entirely in goods for a healthy lifestyle are opened.

The healthy lifestyle trend is also changing the catering industry: there are establishments for vegetarians, for raw foodists; vegetables, as well as steamed dishes, are becoming more on the menu. Plant -based milk in coffee shops is no longer a rarity. Some establishments involve nutritionists in the development of the menu. The segment of delivery of prepared healthy food rations is growing at a significant pace.

The fact that the Russians began to carefully monitor the diet and composition of products, refuse semi-finished products, finished products with a high content of salt or sugar, is evidenced by surveys by the Center for the Study of Consumer Behavior of Roskachestvo.

Proper nutrition and diet

One of the misconceptions associated with healthy lifestyles is that a healthy body is a thin body. Hence the high interest in diets, which often go against a balanced diet. Many diets imply a strict ban on any product, for example, the keto diet is based on the almost complete rejection of carbohydrates, and the Dukan diet involves a protein diet with a minimum amount of carbohydrates and fats; Japanese diet - preference for protein and fiber, with a minimum of fast carbohydrates.

At the same time, doctors note that a specialist should select diets based on health data. The habit of eating right is much more effective than any radial restrictions. Proper nutrition is based on two principles: the calorie content of food must meet the actual energy consumption of the body, the
diet must meet the body's needs for biologically active substances.

Currently, Rospotrebnadzor is implementing the Healthy Eating project, within the framework of which educational activities and promotion of the principles of healthy eating are carried out.
