The Ministry of Health warned about the greater lethality of the delta strain of coronavirus

The delta strain of coronavirus quickly leads to severe complications in the sick, so the mortality rate among those infected with it may be higher, said Alexei Kuznetsov, Assistant Minister of Health of Russia, RIA Novosti reports.

“Lethality in COVID-19 disease caused by the delta strain may be higher than in the previous period of the rise in the incidence,” he admitted.

The representative of the Ministry of Health explained that a feature of this mutation is the more rapid development of the disease, including the rapid appearance of severe complications - extensive pneumonia, damage to the heart, kidneys and other organs. “It is also important to note that among vaccinated citizens, the number of hospitalizations and severe complications of COVID-19 is significantly lower than among unvaccinated citizens,” Kuznetsov emphasized.

Kuznetsov linked the new rise in the incidence of COVID-19 in June-August 2021 precisely with the spread of the delta strain.
