JK Rowling pledged to donate up to £1 million to Ukrainian children

British writer and author of the Harry Potter books JK Rowling has pledged to donate up to £1 million to the Lumos charity foundation, which has announced a fundraiser to help Ukrainian children.

“I will personally increase the donations to this fundraiser to £1 million. Many thanks to everyone who has already donated, you enable Lumos to help the most vulnerable children in Ukraine,” Rowling wrote on her Twitter page.

The Lumos Foundation, founded by Rowling in 2005 to help children, has announced a fundraiser in connection with the events in Ukraine, according to a message on the charity's website. The collected money is planned to be used for food, hygiene and medical kits, support for orphanages and the provision of psychological assistance.

The fund operates in the Zhytomyr region of Ukraine. According to Lumos, there are more than 1.5 thousand children in orphanages in the region, and about 100 thousand in the country as a whole.
