June 7, MINSK . The leading cow in one day of the exhibition "Belagro" gave 67 liters of MILK. This was told to a BelTA correspondent by the HEAD of the department of biotechnology, informatics and genomic analysis of the Belarusian state association for livestock breeding "Belplemzhivobedinenie" Elena Makaro.
"The highest milk yield from a cow on display at the exhibition was 67 liters of milk per day," said Elena Makaro.
She explained that in the competition for the best breeding cow of a dairy breed, included in the program of the Belagro-2023 exhibition, 24 leaders in milk production are represented. These are the best cows from every region of the republic. All breeding farms of Belarus participate in the competition, and there are more than 50 of them.
Each cow presented in the exposition gives at least 10 tons of milk per year, and the leading cows - 16 tons of milk per year, which is a very high indicator at the world level.
The sire Kesson, born in 2019, also aroused great interest among visitors. "The calf is literally four years old. About 1 thousand daughters were born from him. We are waiting for the start of their lactation to confirm his high breeding value," said Elena Makaro. She explained that the high productivity of cows increases the price of bull semen.
"Belplemzhivobedinenie", which supervises selection and breeding work in the republic under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, presented a wide exposition of livestock breeding at the exhibition. Representatives of the most common cattle breeds in the republic are shown - Holstein, red Belarusian gene pool, from MEAT breeds - limousines, Aberdeen-Angus, Hereford, Belgian blue, which is used in interbreeding. The exposition of sheep and goat breeding is also widely represented. In total, 12 breeds of sheep and goats of Alpine and Saanen breeds are bred in the republic.
