Within a radius of 20 kilometers
A new outbreak of ASF was found in the Krasnoselsky district - wild boars died there. Within a radius of 20 kilometers, a quarantine zone had to be introduced by a special decree of the governor of the Kostroma region. The radius included sections of three districts.
ASF is not dangerous for humans. “The entire population of domestic pigs kept in the threatened zone is subject to seizure and destruction. Depopulation and destruction of the wild boar stock will be carried out in the hunting grounds of this zone. Everything is being done so that the ASF virus does not spread to other areas, the veterinary department of the Kostroma region reported. “In the current situation, all citizens visiting places where wild boars can live (hunters, fishermen) must take measures: follow the established hunting rules, ensure the change and disinfection of clothes and shoes, and immediately report the discovery of dead boars.”
The veterinary service in the area where there is a threat of AChSYU has banned all types of hunting, except for hunting in order to regulate the number of hunting resources. A ban has been established on the EXPORT of pigs, the sale of pigs and non-industrial slaughter products, the procurement and export of feed, with the exception of industrial compound feed and feed grain that has undergone heat treatment, and the holding of fairs and exhibitions.
it is impossible to predict
Alas, it is almost impossible to predict such outbreaks. Only on February 6, by a decree of the HEAD of the region, quarantine was canceled in the Ostrovsky municipal district. The Department of Veterinary Medicine then stated: "The territory of the Kostroma region is currently free from African swine fever." And here is an unexpected find in the Ostrovsky district.
A large-scale ASF epidemic began rapidly and just as unexpectedly in July 2022: ASF foci were found in the Kostroma, Galichsky, Sudislavsky, Krasnoselsky, Parfenevsky, Manturovsky, Makaryevsky and Nerekhtsky districts. Moreover, the same three municipal districts as now are at risk.
In August 2022, the infection of the animal was also detected in the Shuvalovo livestock complex. At an unscheduled meeting of the anti-epizootic commission, emergency decisions were made: quarantine posts with disinfection barriers were installed in the village of Shuvalovo. There were inspection and disinfection of transport, bypasses of the adjacent territory for traces of wild boars. The livestock of the site where the case of infection was detected was subject to complete destruction. At the other sites of the pig-breeding complex, samples were taken from animals, as well as samples of feed and water, said experts from the regional veterinary department.
Then, already in early August, the removal of animals from private farms located in the outbreaks of ASF was completed, and the epidemic gradually ceased. Now, taking into account the new focus, the owners of domestic pigs need to take care of their safety and report all cases of illness or death to the state veterinary service.
Note
Having identified a case of illness, death of pigs, discovered places of unauthorized burial of biological waste or facts of trade in live animals, pig products and feed in unidentified places, you should report this to the institutions of the state veterinary service at the place of residence.
