There is currently an outbreak of avian influenza in three of Ghana's 16 regions, which could affect a total of about 600,000 poultry. Such data was confirmed on July 17 by the DIRECTOR of the veterinary service of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture of the African country, Patrick Abake.

Avian influenza has been found in Greater Accra, Volta and the Central Regions, Abake said. He also specified that about 6 thousand heads of poultry have already died from it and about 4.5 thousand have been slaughtered in the fight against the spread of the epidemic.

He also pointed out that the Ghanaian government immediately banned the import of poultry MEAT from Nigeria and Togo, and added that the Ghanaian government did not react to the outbreak of this disease in January, when the disease was first detected in these countries, due to the fact that then poultry the flu did not spread.

On July 15, it became known that a case of human infection with avian influenza was registered in the city of Bazhong, Sichuan Province in southwest CHINA .
