The regional administration held a meeting of the regional headquarters for the economy, dedicated to the state of affairs in the industrial poultry and livestock complexes, as well as measures to support the agro-industrial complex of the region.

Stability in the domestic food market of the region, as well as prices for MEAT products, directly depends on the uninterrupted operation of livestock enterprises.

In the conditions of sanctions pressure, the task for the region today is simple - to increase the production of agricultural products.

Statistics show the following: in 2021, the self-sufficiency of the region in eggs was more than 144%, in meat - 88%. The main volume of meat production falls on pig farms and a rabbit breeding enterprise.

The main problems today are interruptions in the supply of breeding products for the formation of commercial livestock, as well as vaccines and other imported medicines. The Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation and the ROSSELKHOZNADZOR, Russian scientific institutes, within the framework of import substitution, are actively solving the issue of providing the agro-industrial complex with domestic analogues of vaccines.

Poultry enterprises note an increase in the cost of packaging and feed: over 70% of the costs of the enterprise are compound feed for laying hens. To stabilize the situation, the Smetaninskaya poultry farm, for example, with the support of the regional administration, began to actively engage in crop production to create its own fodder base. A number of regional pig farms followed the same path.

In the field of credit and financial support, in the Smolensk region there are such instruments as insurance with state support for livestock of large and small livestock, pigs, rabbits, poultry, when 50% of the insurance premium is reimbursed by the state.

As for the problem raised with the supply of imported components for special equipment, on behalf of Governor Alexei Ostrovsky, this issue will be resolved at the regional and federal levels.

Also, the relevant deputies of the governor were instructed to think over additional incentive measures to support the production of grain for fodder purposes, if the enterprise sells it for feed to Smolensk livestock breeders. A similar measure to support MILK producers has already been introduced in the region and has proven to be effective.
