Over the past 4 years, Russian poultry farmers have increased the supply of their products to foreign markets by 68%. The general DIRECTOR of the National Union of Poultry Farmers, Sergei Lakhtyukhov, spoke about this in the first issue of “Prodcast”, a joint project of the Publishing House “New Industry Media” and the research company NTech. The HEAD of the union named African states, as well as Iran, among the promising markets for increasing supplies of Russian poultry products.
At the end of 2022, the growth in the total volume of exports of poultry products from the Russian Federation in physical terms amounted to 16% compared to 2021. Last year, Russian poultry farmers supplied their products to 40 countries.
The main consumer of Russian poultry products is CHINA . This country accounts for up to 40% of the total supply. “And it’s not just paws. They account for less than 60% of supplies. We also supply wings, elbow joints , and offal to China,” said the head of the union.
The countries of the Persian Gulf, primarily Saudi Arabia , also show no less good dynamics of shipments, said Sergei Lakhtyukhov. “In second place in terms of supply volumes is Saudi Arabia, where we EXPORT not only the carcass, but also fillets and cuts. Supplies to this country are growing steadily month by month,” he added.
The expert named African countries as the third promising direction. “Here we are also showing steady growth. it is worth remembering 2019-2020, when China accounted for almost half of all exports. Today, the decline in China's relative share is offset by supplies to the Gulf and African countries. There we are opening new directions, developing interaction mechanisms, and here we see a fairly optimistic picture,” he commented.
Among other promising markets, the expert also named the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union, in particular Kazakhstan , to which RUSSIA ships over 50 thousand tons of poultry products per year.
Sergei Lakhtyukhov highlighted the Iranian market as another interesting direction for further development of exports. “The creation of a North-South logistics corridor is currently being actively discussed. As soon as we can solve the current problems, Iran can become an interesting destination not only from the point of view of its own consumption of poultry MEAT, but also can become a very convenient and cost-effective hub for the further distribution of our products,” commented Sergey Lakhtyukhov, adding that the emergence of this direction will allow you to avoid deliveries through the Suez Canal and optimize delivery costs to the countries of Southeast Asia and Arab countries.
