TASS reports that from March 2, 2021, the Rosselkhoznadzor imposed restrictions on the supply of poultry products from Algeria due to the tense epizootic situation with highly pathogenic avian influenza in the territory of this state of North Africa.

At the beginning of the second decade of February, the Algerian Veterinary Service notified the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) of an outbreak of H5N8 avian influenza among wildlife in the eastern commune of Ain Fakroun. Subsequently, the epizootic focus was registered on a farm with more than 50 thousand livestock.

In connection with the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza A (H5N8), the Rosselkhoznadzor banned the import of live poultry, hatching eggs and poultry meat that has not undergone proper heat treatment. The restrictions apply to feed and feed additives (except for products of plant origin, chemical and microbiological synthesis), as well as used equipment for keeping and processing poultry. The transit of birds from Algeria through the territory of Russia is not allowed.
