Producers of veterinary drugs proposed to be attributed to agricultural producers

Issues of support for manufacturers of veterinary medicines in Russia were discussed at a meeting of the working group on legislative support for the
domestic production of veterinary medicines, feed and feed additives on January 26, the VIC group of companies reported. Sergey Kasparyants, Executive Director of VIC Group of Companies, took part in the meeting and drew attention to the need for state support in the production of veterinary drugs.

The veterinary industry in the country  is ready to go for import substitution, Sergey Kasparyants said, but this will require resources. The construction of new production sites will require a year and a half, and this may be a critical period for the entire agro-industrial complex. To speed up construction, manufacturers need state support, the expert noted.

To provide this support,  the Committee of the Federation Council proposed to classify medicines for animals as agricultural products, and manufacturers of these medicines as agricultural producers. This will make it possible to allocate to such enterprises the same benefits and payments that all agricultural producers receive.

In addition, the government proposed to  classify the largest manufacturers of veterinary drugs as backbone enterprises, speed up and facilitate the process of registering Russian-made veterinary drugs, and also find ways to increase demand for these drugs from Russian livestock breeders.
