Between January and July, Brazil exported about 282 thousand HEAD of cattle , as evidenced by the following graph.

USDA FAS Live Beef Exports 2023

This is a 220% increase compared to the same period in 2022, which is attributed to increased exports to the Middle East , especially Turkey, which did not import a single animal during the same period in 2022.

The average travel time from Brazil to Turkey by sea is 18 to 20 days.

As Post Ankara reports in report TU2023-0013, Turkey is seeing elevated prices for MEAT and dairy products due to several reasons, including insufficient cattle numbers , and therefore live cattle imports are expected to double.
