Russia blacklisted 398 US congressmen

The decision was a response to the introduction of US sanctions against State Duma deputies. Also, 87 senators of CANADA, which had previously imposed sanctions , were included in the Russian blacklist.against members of the Federation Council

RUSSIA , in response to US sanctions against State Duma deputies, blacklisted 398 members of the House of Representatives of the US Congress, according to the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

“These persons, including the leadership and chairmen of the committees of the lower house of the US Congress, are included in the Russian “stop list” on an ongoing basis. Together with other current legislators, who, like Speaker Nancy Pelosi, were previously denied entry to the Russian Federation, all US congressmen are subjected to “listing” on the basis of reciprocity, ”the ministry said in a statement. There are 435 congressmen in the House of Representatives.

Similar sanctions were also imposed against 87 senators of the Parliament of Canada in connection with the decision of Ottawa to blacklist all Russian senators. The Canadian Senate has 105 seats.

“Continuing this short-sighted line, reflecting the failure and dependent nature of Canadian foreign policy, can only multiply the damage done to Canada itself and its relations with Russia, taking into account the inevitable Russian retaliatory measures,” the Foreign Ministry stressed.

The United States imposed sanctions against Russian deputies in several stages. On March 11, 12 members of the lower house of the Federal Assembly, including Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov and Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, were subject to restrictions. The State Department reported that they "led the effort" for Russia to recognize the independence of the DNR and LNR. On March 24, sanctions were imposed against 328 deputies, as well as against the State Duma itself as an institution. Thus, at least 340 deputies were included in the American black lists, in total there are 450 seats in the State Duma (one is now vacant).

Canada imposed sanctions on 160 Russian senators on March 24 "for facilitating and allowing violations of the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine."
