A Lida district resident beat and set fire to an acquaintance: the case has been sent to court.

May 20, Grodno. The Grodno Region Prosecutor's Office has sent a criminal case to COURT against a 57-year-old resident of the Lida District: he is charged with the murder of a helpless person, committed in a generally dangerous manner and with particular cruelty. This was reported to BelTA by the Grodno Region Prosecutor's Office.
As established during the preliminary investigation, on October 27, 2024, the accused, in a state of intoxication,During an argument with an acquaintance, a man intoxicated and punched him in the face at least three times. The blows caused the victim to fall to the floor and lose consciousness. Taking advantage of the man's helpless state , the attacker then dragged him by the legs into the kitchen, where he lit a rag with a lighter and threw it on the victim. This caused a fire , and the man's body began to burn.
Neighbors called the Ministry of Emergency Situations and an ambulance. The victim died from his injuries at a healthcare facility.
The criminal case was pending with the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus for the Grodno Region. The Grodno Region Prosecutor's Office agreed with the classification of the crime under paragraphs 2, 5, and 6, Part 2, Article 139 of the Criminal Code. When sending the case to court, the prosecutor upheld the previously applied pretrial detention measure.
