January 25, Minsk. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law toughening the responsibility of the military for non-execution of an order, escape from a battlefield or military unit, writes Strana.ua.
According to the new law, the term of punishment is increased for non-execution of an order, for unauthorized leaving of a military unit or place of service, as well as for failure to appear on time for service without good reason. In addition, the responsibility for the use of alcoholic beverages and drugs during martial law is being tightened.Analyst of the "Chesno" movement Victoria Oleinik believes that the rights of the Ukrainian military to judicial protection will be significantly limited.
"Now the judges will not take into account all the circumstances of the case when they pass a verdict in cases of war crimes. Now the judicial practice will be unanimous - real and long sentences for all the military. And those who left the place of service without permission because they were intoxicated , and who, for health reasons, really could not arrive at the service on time," Viktoria Oleinik says.
The bill was prepared by the Servant of the People faction and sent for signature on December 13, 2022. On December 15, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the corresponding law.
