Minsk . In the Brest region, 313 drivers in a state of intoxication have been detained since the beginning of the year.
"To prevent and combat drunk driving and unlicensed drivers, the State Traffic Inspectorate conducts preventative campaigns and raids. During these campaigns, patrol teams are formed from traffic police officers. Police patrols are deployed to locations where alcoholic beverages are sold (cafes, gas
stations, etc.), especially in the evening and at night, as well as to unregulated pedestrian crossings. Since the beginning of the year, 313 drunk drivers and 1,068 unlicensed drivers have been detained in the Brest Region," the Department of Internal Affairs reported.
The department also explained that, according to the Code of Administrative Offenses, drunk driving with a blood
alcohol level of up to 0.8 ppm (inclusive) is punishable by a fine of 100 basic units and a three-year ban on certain activities.
Driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol level of over 0.8 ppm (inclusive) is punishable by a fine of 200 basic units and a five-year ban on certain activities. Consuming alcohol after an accident in which the driver is involved, before undergoing a medical examination to determine their level of intoxication, is punishable by a fine of 200 basic units and a five-year ban on certain activities.
Repeated drunk driving within one year is punishable by criminal prosecution, and the vehicle driven under the influence is subject to confiscation, regardless of ownership.
Allowing a person to operate a vehicle while intoxicated or while under the influence of narcotics, psychotropic substances, their analogues, toxic substances, or other intoxicating substances is punishable by a fine of 50 to 100 base units and a three-year ban on certain activities.
Driving a vehicle without a license, as well as allowing a person to operate a vehicle without a license, is punishable by a fine of 5 to 20 base units. The same offenses, if committed repeatedly within one year of an administrative penalty for the same violations, are punishable by a fine of 20 to 50 base units, community service, or administrative arrest.
The State Traffic Inspectorate also reminds pedestrians that, in accordance with Article 18.20, Part 2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of
Belarus, the administrative penalty in the form of a fine for being on the roadway while intoxicated as a pedestrian or cyclist ranges from 3 to 5 basic units.
For their own safety, pedestrians should remember to wear reflective elements at night. Cross the road only in designated areas, and
it is strictly forbidden to be intoxicated near or on the roadway.
