Traffic police notes a downward trend in traffic accidents involving drunk drivers in Minsk

April 16, MINSK. In Minsk, there is a tendency to reduce traffic accidents involving drunk drivers. Sergei Babich, HEAD of the traffic police department of the Main Internal Affairs Directorate of the Minsk City Executive Committee, announced this on the air of the TV channel, BelTA informs.

“With the change in seasonality, of course, the road situation has also changed. The density of automobile and road traffic has increased, more cyclists and motor vehicles have appeared. The main cause of accidents, as it was, and remains, is the wrong choice of speed by drivers when driving. Because of this the driver is not able to respond in time to changes in the traffic situation, to take measures to prevent any traffic accidents," Sergei Babich said.

The head of the department also spoke about the trends in road accidents caused by drunk drivers. "This is the most dangerous category of road users - drunk drivers, who are a great danger to everyone around. Even ALCOHOL in the smallest doses significantly affects the perception of the road situation," he added. "This includes the introduction of criminal liability for repeated driving while intoxicated or otherwise intoxicated during the year, and confiscation of property. These measures are very effective. We are seeing a downward trend in the number of drunk drivers and accidents due to their fault and with their participation."
