Belarus extends food embargo on goods from Western countries until the end of the year

June 28, MINSK . Belarus has extended the ban on the import of certain types of agricultural and food products from unfriendly countries for another six months - until December 31, 2023 inclusive. The corresponding decree was signed by Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko, BelTA learned from the press service of the government.

The document, among other things, provides for the preservation of the ban on the import of apples from unfriendly countries, except for the period from 1 to 31 July. A ban is also introduced on the import of beer and low-alcohol drinks from Lithuania and Poland, taking into account the production of similar products in Belarus in sufficient volumes.

As reported, on December 6, 2021, Government Decree No. 700 “On the Application of Special Measures for Certain Types of Goods” was adopted, which regulated the introduction of a food embargo against a wide range of goods produced in countries that implement discriminatory policies and carry out unfriendly actions against Belarus. The import ban was then introduced on a number of goods from the European Union, the United States of America, CANADA, Norway, Albania, Iceland, North Macedonia, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Montenegro, Switzerland.
