Kursk farmers are ready for the sowing campaign

The readiness of the region for the sowing campaign, the results of the work of the livestock industry in 2022 and the tasks facing the agro-industrial complex this year were discussed at a meeting chaired by the Governor of the Kursk Region Roman Starovoit. The HEAD of the region presented honorary awards to distinguished representatives of the sphere.
“Despite the difficult economic situation associated with sanctions pressure, difficult weather conditions, last year a record harvest of grain crops was harvested in the region - more than 6 million tons. However, according to other indicators, such as crop and livestock production, the Kursk region is at the forefront,” said Roman Starovoit.
The use of modern technologies in the agro-industrial complex made it possible to achieve high production results: more than 6 million tons of grain and 4.5 million tons of SUGAR beets were produced. At present, the farms are fully provided with seeds, mineral fertilizers and machinery. Favorable weather conditions made it possible to start feeding winter crops.
Sergey Starodubtsev, Deputy Governor of the Kursk Region, noted that the region's farms had basically completed preparations for seasonal field work. Agricultural producers are fully provided with seeds of spring grain crops, the issue of importing seeds of sugar beet, corn, sunflower, spring rapeseed is under daily control. To date, most of their volume has been received by farms. As for mineral fertilizers, the situation with their purchase is much better than last year. To date, the farms have purchased the bulk of fertilizers. The equipment is also ready to go into the fields. Spring sowing in all categories of farms in the region will be carried out on an area of about 1.3 million hectares. The entire sown area for the 2023 harvest will be about 1 million 700 thousand hectares.
As for beef cattle breeding, 670 tons of MEAT were produced in the region in 2022. In terms of production volume, the Kursk region ranks third among the regions of RUSSIA. Also one of the priority areas is the dairy farming industry. At the end of 2022, 439 tons of MILK were produced in the region. The positive dynamics will continue in the current year.
Particular attention in the Kursk region is paid to increase the production of import-dependent products: fruits, potatoes, vegetables. Domestic seed production is actively developing, including the AgroTerra company engaged in the production of hybrids. Now 70% of hybrid seeds are imported from abroad, which is why localization of production is so important. Kursk agrarians allocated about 5 thousand hectares for the hybridization of sunflower and corn.
During the meeting, the state of the agro-industrial complex of the Gorshechensky district, the operation of the oil extraction plant in the Kastorensky district and the use of mineral fertilizers were discussed. In addition, farmers were reminded of compliance with fire safety requirements during seasonal field work.
