Trump addresses NATO countries on sanctions against Russia

The US will impose 'serious sanctions' on RUSSIA if other NATO members do the same, Trump said. NATO countries should also impose 50-100% tariffs on CHINA and refuse Russian oil , US President Donald Trump demands

US President Donald Trump said he is ready to impose serious sanctions against Russia if all NATO countries agree, follow the US example and stop buying Russianoil . He expressed his position in a letter addressed, in his words, to NATO countries and to the entire world. He published the text on the social network Truth Social.

According to Trump, NATO countries' continued purchases of Russian oil weaken their negotiating position. He also called on the alliance's allies to impose 50-100% tariffs on China, saying that this would play a major role in ending the Ukrainian conflict. The HEAD of the White House noted that these measures would be lifted after the end of military actions.

"If NATO does as I say, the war will end quickly and all these lives will be saved! If not, you are wasting my time and the time, energy and money of the United States," the American leader concluded.

On the eve, Trump threatened to “hit Russia very hard with sanctions” and said that he was “running out of patience” with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Among possible restrictions, the head of the White House mentioned sanctions on banks, oil, and tariffs.

On the same day, at a meeting of G7 finance ministers, the US called on G7 members and the EU to impose tariffs on China and India to stop them from buying Russian energy resources.

According to dataBLOOMBERG , The US also proposed creating a legal mechanism for the gradual confiscation of frozen Russian assets. Most of these funds are frozen in Europe, in the Belgian depository Euroclear. The EU allocates funds to help Ukraine from the income received from the blocked Russian assets. In this regard, Brussels does not intend to seize them, said the head of the EC Ursula von der Leyen.

Moscow considers any actions with its foreign assets to be “theft” and has warned of legal consequences.

The United States and China, after months of negotiations and the introduction of mutual tariffs of more than 100 percent, reached an agreement at the end of June, which envisages that American tariffs for Beijing will be 55 percent, and Chinese tariffs for Washington will be 10 percent.

The US tariff on Indian goods was 25%, but additional duties imposed by Trump came into effect at the end of August due to New Delhi's purchases of Russian oil. Now the tariffs for India are 50%. The refusal of Russian oil is a US requirement for a trade deal with India, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said.

He explained that New Delhi buys oil at a discount of $7-10, refines it and then resells it around the world. India considered the restrictions unfair and decided to continue buying Russian oil despite US demands.

The US is also demanding that the European Union refuse to supply Russian energy resources, replacing them with American ones. This is stipulated in the trade agreement between the parties. In Washington, they said that Brussels promised to refuse Russian gas by the end of next year.

Moscow considers the sanctions illegal.
