The DPR reported the capture of two foreign ships by Azov fighters

In the port of Mariupol, fighters of the Azov battalion (recognized as extremist in Russia and banned) have seized two foreign ships and are firing from them, the people's militia of the DPR reported.

“In the seaport of Mariupol, the retreating remnants of Ukrainian nationalist units captured two foreign ships, the Tsarevna and the Lady Augusta. Holding the crews of these ships hostage, Azov nationalists are firing from the decks with 120-mm mortars, various types of grenade launchers and small arms,” the report says.

The DPR police specified that they had no data on the fate of the crew members of the ships. Together with the Russian military, the DPR forces “are doing everything possible to save the lives of sailors forcibly held by Ukrainian nationalists.”

On the eve of April 9, the Ministry of Defense reported that on the evening of April 8, Russian ships fired on the Ukrainian Apache cargo ship, which, according to the agency, was trying to enter the port of Mariupol to evacuate the leaders of the Azov battalion.

The ministry said that a dry cargo ship sailing under the Maltese flag abruptly changed course and tried to break into the port, which was blocked from the sea by the forces of the Black Sea Fleet. The ship did not respond to warnings, so the Russian ships opened artillery fire on it.
