Neurological manifestations in patients with COVID-19 are six times more likely to die. This conclusion was reached by an international group of scientists led by members of the Medical School of the University of Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania). Their study was published by the Journal of the American Medical Association.
The study involved more than 3.7 thousand patients from 13 countries with confirmed coronavirus. In 82% of them, general neurological manifestations of the disease were observed - headaches, loss of taste or smell. At the same time, 49% of patients had acute encephalopathy, 17% had coma, and 6% had a stroke.
“These data suggest that neurological manifestations predominate among patients hospitalized with COVID-19 and are associated with higher in-hospital mortality,” the authors of the report conclude.
Rospotrebnadzor called alarming symptoms in children with COVID-19
Chronic neurological diseases of any form: dementia, Alzheimer's disease, migraine, lesions of the brain and spinal cord or central NERVOUS SYSTEM - according to the results of the study, double the risk of COVID-19.
