The Finnish newspaper Karjala reported that a large investment project in the Ladoga region is being implemented by the Adamant company (St. Petersburg), owned by the well-known millionaire Igor Leitis. The project includes a berthing terminal and a residential complex to be built in Sortaval on the shores of Lake Ladoga. Moreover, the ship terminal should be ready by the beginning of the current summer tourist season.
The construction of new facilities in Sortavala is reportedly being carried out on the site of a former furniture factory, the territory and facilities of which have been abandoned in recent years. In 2019-2020, a new investor bought industrial facilities and a non-functioning pier from the previous owner, and also received at his disposal part of the municipal territories adjacent to these facilities. Construction work on the construction of the pier began at the end of last year.

The new berthing terminal will include a panoramic restaurant, waiting room, shops and parking. it is assumed that both private small boats and "meteors" making regular flights to Valaam Island will moor here. In addition, according to the project, a residential complex of four houses with 100 apartments and a multifunctional center, including a sports complex, should be built in this area. The timing of housing construction is not yet known.
It is expected that the appearance of such a facility in Sortavala will make it possible to rationalize tourist routes passing through the city, as well as reduce car traffic in the city center that occurs during the tourist season. In addition, the investor also plans to equip the urban areas adjacent to the object. RBC Karelia sent a request to the holding about the progress of the project.
