Rosstat estimated population decline in regions

In a number of Russian regions, natural population decline has accelerated significantly in 2020. This follows from the revised data published by Rosstat for the past year.

On average, in Russia, the natural population decline increased by 2.2 times compared to 2019 - from 317.2 thousand to 702 thousand people.

However, in St. Petersburg , the population decline increased from 308 people in 2019 to 17.9 thousand people in 2020.

In Tatarstan, in 2019, the natural decline was 180 people. In 2020 - 12.9 thousand people. The data of Tatarstan strongly stand out from the statistics of the rest of the Volga regions, where the growth rate of the natural population decline did not exceed 2.5 on average.
