Seven regions of Belarus exceeded the 9 ton milk yield per cow per year mark in 2024

4 March, Minsk . Berestovitsky, Ivanovo, Nesvizh, Smolevichi, Mozyr and Brest districts have exceeded the 9-ton milk yield per cow per year mark, while Grodno district has exceeded the 10-ton mark (10,399 kg). Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Vladimir Grakun presented the key performance indicators of the livestock industry in 2024 at a board meeting, BelTA has learned.
Thus, according to the results of 2024, all regions of the republic fulfilled the tasks for poultry farming. The planned volumes of egg production were also achieved. Livestock farming as a whole demonstrated positive dynamics in the production of almost all main types of products. In 2024, agricultural organizations produced 8.5 million tons of milk, which is 105.2% of the 2023 level. All regions ensured the growth in production volumes. As is the case with poultry meat. Last year, 717 thousand tons were produced in the country, and this is 108.1% of the level of last year.

"Belarus' achievements in milk production are undeniable. Over the past four years, there has been a steady increase in its production volumes, with an increase of over 400 thousand tons in 2023 and 2024," Vladimir Grakun emphasized. "The increase was achieved due to the growth in the productivity of the dairy herd. In 2024, the milk yield in the republic as a whole exceeded 6 thousand kg per head (6198 kg) for the first time."

By the way, 54 out of 118 districts of the republic exceeded the 6 thousand mark. 31 districts and 312 agricultural organizations worked with a dairy herd productivity of more than 7 thousand kg per cow (in 2023, 23 and 283, respectively). Last year, the Berestovitsky, Ivanovo, Nesvizhsky, Smolevichi, Mozyr and Brest districts exceeded the 9,000 kg per cow mark, while the Grodno district exceeded the 10,000 mark (10,399 kg).

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food explained that the absolute leaders, both in terms of milk production volumes and productivity, are traditionally regions with a high level of technological discipline and production culture: in the Brest region, the milk yield was 7,731 kg, which is 463 kg higher than the 2023 level, in Grodno 7,512 kg and in Minsk 6,831 kg.

"Increasing productivity in lagging regions is one of the main reserves for further expansion of milk production volumes," Vladimir Grakun said. "Today, our dairy herd in a number of farms already provides an annual productivity of more than 13 tons, therefore, creating appropriate conditions for keeping, feeding with high-quality, balanced feeds are the tasks of managers and specialists at all levels."
