EEC: EAEU has a mechanism to ensure interstate food supplies

December 16, Moscow. The Eurasian Economic Union has a mechanism for ensuring interstate food supplies. Iya Malkina, official representative of the Eurasian Economic Commission, drew attention to this today, commenting on the introduction by Belarus of a food embargo against countries that put sanctions pressure on Belarus from January 1, BelTA has learned.

“This year, a special working group has been created in the commission on the issues of mutual deliveries of agricultural goods in case of force majeure situations,” Iya Malkina recalled. “Any country of the union, including the Republic of Belarus, can send an initiative proposal to the commission indicating the needs for supplies certain goods. This application will be promptly sent to the other parties and, based on the results of the consideration, the parameters of interstate deliveries of goods for the coming months will be worked out."

The EEC representative noted that, in general, in the EAEU, the level of self-sufficiency in the main types of agricultural products and food is more than 92%. "By next year it is planned to reach 93.5%," she specified.

"According to joint forecasts for the development of the agro-industrial complex, in 2022 the EAEU is expected to increase agricultural production in DOLLAR terms by 2% compared to 2019. The production of grain, vegetable oils, MILK, pork, beef, as well as vegetables and fruits will grow at the fastest pace. ", - added Iya Malkina.
